Many years ago – all right, in the spring of 1993 – I did my GCSE art on Sunday afternoons, listening to the BBCs Lord of the Ring’s adaptation (the 26 part version), or the afternoon serial. One such serial was a life of Alexander the Great called, unsurprisingly, Alexander. I didn’t hear the whole thing, and it was the search for a book it might be based on that lead me a year later to Mary Renault (it wasn't explicitly based on Renault, but it was definitely from the Renault school of Alexander interpretations). For the last fifteen years I have been longing to hear it again, and to hear the whole thing.

And now it is on BBC7 this week – at 11am and 5am, when I am of course at work for the first and asleep for the second. Oh, and my borrowed digital radio isn't working. I do not presently have access to Listen Again at home nor at work, although I shall at the weekend at my parents’ house. I do not, however, wish to spend 6 hours on Saturday listening to 5 episodes, following which I will miss the final one next Monday.

Technological flist, help me! How can I access the programme so that I am able to listen to it? What do I do?

[ETA: Sorted!]

You ask me to ask [livejournal.com profile] topicaltim to turn it into MP3s which I can then email or stick on a CD and put in the internal mail :-)

Yes! I shall do that.

That would be absolutely brilliant, if you could do it. I confess I was vaguely hoping that someone might offer a solution along those lines, but I wasn't sure if it was even technically possible to "record" the programmes in that way. Of course, it would have been more honest to say, "Hi, can anyone tape this for me," but less British.

(I know nothing about MP3s, either, but I assume that my laptop plays them quite happily)

If your laptop has Windows Media Player installed it should play the MP3s, although actually I could just record it as an audio CD now I think of it.

It has - and it will also play CDs, so whichever is most convenient for you.
