I don't suppose I can persuade anyone to write the fanfic in which Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane visit the Orb - you know, the one just off Beta Colony?

I'll admit there are narrative challenges in getting them into the future, possibly in an alternative universe, but that's no reason it shouldn't be done!

[Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan novels - a couple of later plotlines of which owe a certain debt to Sayers.]

Oh. My.

My mind is coming up with all sorts of interesting scenarios for getting them there, everything from time travel to alternative universes.

It might be a little tricky, but I'm sure it could be done!

::envisions a murder of someone that would provoke a diplomatic crisis if it/she/he were known to have been there, the need for a really discreet investigator...::

arrrgh. Mind boggles.

Not least because I'm convinced they'd run in to Uncle Paul.

Oh, goodness, yes, Uncle Paul would love the Orb.

I can't work out whether he'd be delighted or rather embarrassed to discover that a fair percentage of the visitors from Barrayar understood French.

What, you mean that Uncle's Pauls' reputation is due perhaps less to natural talent and more to expert tuition and galactic drugs? I like it!

I'm not volunteering, but I think it's a fantastic idea. Among other things, someone so inclined could explore genuine sang-froid vs. pseudo-broad-mindedness (e.g., Delagardian vs. Bloomsbury mores, or a conversation between Harriet and Dono on Proper Jobs (not that Dono would necessarily be there, but one could arrange matters...)...

I could Harriet and Peter making their way to the Orb after appealed to for help from St. George. Whom I have long wanted to slash with Ivan (again that contrast and tension between genuine hedonism vs. well-repressed sense of duty), but that's another fic I'm not getting to anytime soon, so if anyone wants to go cook that hare, feel free.

Dono would have visited Beta Colony for a routine check-up, and naturally he and Olivia would pop over to the Orb at the same time. The idea of Saint-George being responsible for getting Our Heroes into this particular mess has a good deal to recommend it.

The _really_ important question: would Bunter accompany them?

The music-hall offerings at the Colony are probably out of this world, so to speak.

Hope you're enjoying Vienna! The town Christmas market was lovely and the carousel goes at quite a whip so I couldn't get anyone on it. Just a little drive by to say I've made icons again (http://silverweave.livejournal.com/184174.html) and that I hereby tag you for this fic me!me! Captain Jack and Harriet Vane, if you please.

Hey, I know this is completely random and nothing to do with your post (oddly fitting all the same, though), but do you remember that I was going to write that Helen/Bunter fic (http://copperbadge.livejournal.com/1330312.html?thread=30560392#t30560392) awhile back? Well, it's taken a godawful long time to get around to finishing it, but I tackled it last week and now I'm nearly through. Unfortunately no one on my flist is a Lord Peter fan and I'm rather desperate to have someone look it over before I post it. Could I coax you, pretty please, to read it and give your opinion once it's done?

Aargh, I was just going over a timeline and realizing that this story takes place right around Clouds of Witness. It's been a long time since I read that, and in order not to contradict anything established in there (and to add a few corresponding details in my fic (because yes, I am that annoyingly anal *headdesk*), I've got to do a quick reread of the book. Will late next week still be all right for sending you the fic?
